What is the Nike Adapt System?
The Nike Adapt System (“System”) has two parts: the Nike Adapt shoes (“Adapts”) and the accompanying Nike Adapt App (“App”). The Adapts contain a lace engine and Bluetooth connection that allows you to control the fit of your Adapts remotely through the App. While the lace engine in the Adapts can be activated directly without the App, using the two together will enable the full functionality in your Adapts, maximise your experience of the System and provide you with the full value of your Adapts.
What Data Does the System Collect and When?
Depending on how you chose to use the System, certain information may be collected from the Adapts through the App and shared with Nike as outlined below. Some information is required for the App to provide basic functions. Other information is optional, such as data collected about the function of the lacing engine and your interactions with it. Before this data is shared with Nike, you will have the choice of whether to allow such sharing through your use of the App and through your App settings menu, as outlined below.
If you do not connect the App to your Adapts, no data will be collected by the App from your Adapts and shared to Nike.
Control Your Adapts Remotely (Baseline Functional Data)
You can control your Adapts remotely through the App. After downloading the App, you must connect your Adapts to the App. When you do so, the following basic functional information is collected from your Adapts and shared to Nike through the App via a Bluetooth connection:
- Lacing engine firmware version;
- Battery status and charge level;
- Bluetooth connection status;
- Lacing position (i.e. how tight are the laces);
- LED colour selected; and
- Foot presence sensor data (which indicates whether a foot is in the shoe to trigger auto-lacing).
This data enables the core functionality of the App by providing the information needed to remotely control the lace engine, adjust the fit of your Adapts and change the colour of the LED lights displayed on your Adapts. The information also enables the App to provide you with low battery warnings, advise you of available firmware updates for the lace engine and enable preset fit preferences. If you do not want to share this information with Nike, you should not connect the App to your Adapts.
Help Improve the Product (Lace Engine Health and Performance Data)
To ensure the ongoing performance of the lace engine in your Adapts, Nike may request you to enable sharing of additional diagnostics data from the lace engine, including:
- Battery use, consumption and charging statistics
- Lace engine usage statistics, such as number of times the Adapts has been laced and engine idle time
- Statistics around engine status (idle, charging, active)
- Running counts of button presses, preset changes, and other lacing actions
- Lace engine crash reports and error logs
- Lace engine temperature
Nike will use this data to ensure the continued performance of your Adapts, gather aggregate statistics to improve the performance and reliability of our products and services and to inform you of the availability of new products and services. Before this data is shared with Nike, you will have the option of choosing whether you wish to share this information. You will be able to control whether this data is shared through your App settings.
Help Improve the Digital Experience (App Usage Data)
To enhance the Adapt experience, Nike has created an App to help you control the functionality of your Adapts. This App allows you to tighten/loosen your laces, change the LED colour displayed, and create preset fit preferences. As with other Nike apps, whenever you use the App, data is collected about your interactions with the App to provide insight on how the App is used, which allows Nike to improve our digital experiences.
